To join a Schedule I server at RespawnHost, every player needs three things: the Mono version of the game (Steam beta “alternate”), MelonLoader, and the Mono client of DedicatedServerMod in the same version as the server. Then you connect from the main menu via Servers using the IP and port shown in the panel.
What do I need to join a Schedule I server?
| What | On our servers | Where from |
|---|---|---|
| Game version | Mono (Steam beta alternate) | Steam, Schedule I properties |
| Mod loader | MelonLoader 0.7.2 | github.com/LavaGang/MelonLoader |
| Server mod, client part | DedicatedServerMod, file Mono-Client.zip, currently version 1.0.0 | github.com/ifBars/S1DedicatedServers |
| Connection | IP and port of your server | Panel overview |
As of 15 September 2026. Which mod version your server uses right now is shown in the console on startup, see below.
Why do I need the Mono version?
Schedule I comes in two technical variants: the default version (Il2Cpp) and the Mono version, which TVGS offers as the Steam beta “alternate”. Mods are built for one of the two. An Il2Cpp mod does not run on Mono and vice versa. Our Schedule I servers run the Mono version, so every player needs Mono as well.
Step 1: Switch Schedule I to the Mono version
- In Steam, open your Library, right-click Schedule I and choose Properties.
- Select Betas on the left and set the beta participation to alternate.
- Wait until Steam has downloaded the update.
Warning
Back up your single-player saves before switching, in case you want to go back to the default version later.
Step 2: Install MelonLoader
- Download the MelonLoader installer from the MelonLoader releases page.
- Run the installer and select your Schedule I folder. In Steam you find it by right-clicking Schedule I, then Manage and Browse local files. Install version 0.7.2, the same as on our servers.
- Start Schedule I once and close it again. MelonLoader then creates the Mods folder in the game folder.
Step 3: Install the DedicatedServerMod client
- Open the DedicatedServerMod releases and pick the version your server runs (currently v1.0.0).
- Download Mono-Client.zip. You do not need the Il2cpp or server files.
- Extract the ZIP straight into your Schedule I folder. Afterwards the file
Mods/DedicatedServerMod_Mono_Client.dllis in place.
Note
Do not simply grab the latest version. Server and client need the same DedicatedServerMod version, otherwise connecting fails.
Which mod version is my server running?
On startup your server writes the MelonLoader messages to the console in the panel, each marked with [melon]. They include the loaded DedicatedServerMod and its version number. That is exactly the version you download in step 3.
Step 4: Connect to the server
- Start Schedule I. The main menu now has a Servers button.
- Open the direct connection there (Direct Connect), enter your server’s IP and port from the panel overview and click Connect.
- Alternatively, save the server as a favorite via Add Favorite Server with the fields “IP / Host” and “Port”. It then shows up in the list next time.
Tip
Everyone who wants to play needs the same four steps. Set it up together before your first session on the server.
What if connecting does not work?
| Symptom | Most common cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| No “Servers” button in the main menu | Client mod missing or in the wrong folder | The DLL has to be in Mods/ inside the game folder |
| MelonLoader crashes on startup | Default version (Il2Cpp) installed instead of Mono | Set the Steam beta to “alternate” |
| Connection is refused or drops | Client and server use different mod versions | Install the Mono client in the server’s version |
| Nothing works after a Schedule I update | The mod does not match the new game version yet | Wait for a mod update or ask our support |
MelonLoader writes a log to MelonLoader/Latest.log in the game folder. Feel free to send it along when you contact support.
FAQ
Can I join with the regular Steam version of Schedule I? No, our servers run the Mono version, and the Mono client only works on the Steam beta branch “alternate”.
Do I have to use the latest DedicatedServerMod version? No, you need exactly the version your server runs.
Does every player need this setup? Yes, everyone who wants to join needs the Mono version, MelonLoader and the matching client.
Can I switch back to the regular version? Yes, set the beta participation in Steam back to the default version.
What RespawnHost recommends
Set up the Mono version, MelonLoader and the client together once, ideally before your first evening on the server. When Schedule I gets a larger update, create a backup in the panel first. After updates the mod sometimes needs a few days until it fits again.
