How do I become admin on my Abiotic Factor server?
Two routes lead to admin rights: enter your Steam ID in the Admin.ini (permanent) or set an -AdminPassword at server start (login in game). Important to know: Abiotic Factor has no vanilla text console with admin commands — moderation happens through the in-game admin GUI.
Route 1: Admin.ini with [Moderators]
The Admin.ini lives in the server’s save directory (or at a custom location via -AdminIniPath=, see the setup guide). Under the [Moderators] header, add the Steam IDs of your admins:
[Moderators]
; one SteamID64 per line
76561198000000000
- Stop the server.
- Open
Admin.iniin the file manager and add the SteamID64 under[Moderators]. - Start the server — the listed players now have moderation rights.
Tip
You'll find your SteamID64 via your Steam profile (profile URL) or Steam ID lookup sites. It's the long number starting with 7656….
Route 2: -AdminPassword
Alternatively, set the parameter -AdminPassword=YourPassword in the startup variables. Anyone who knows the password can log in as admin in game — handy if you don’t want to juggle Steam IDs.
Warning
The admin password is a master key: only share it with people you genuinely want to hand kick and ban rights.
Moderating via the in-game GUI
There is no server text console with admin commands like in other survival games. Moderation runs through the admin interface in game instead:
- Press ESC in game.
- Open the Admin section (only visible with admin rights).
- There you have kick and ban available for connected players.
Frequently asked questions
Are there admin commands for the server console? No — Abiotic Factor has no vanilla text console for admin commands. Kick and ban run through the in-game admin GUI (ESC → Admin).
Do I need Admin.ini and AdminPassword at the same time? No, one is enough. Admin.ini suits fixed moderator teams, AdminPassword suits quick, flexible access.
Where do I configure game rules like difficulty or loot?
Not via admin rights, but in the world’s SandboxSettings.ini — see the sandbox guide.
