How much RAM does a FiveM server need?
Short answer: a small vanilla server runs from about 4 GB RAM, a typical roleplay server with ESX or QBCore needs 8–16 GB, and large servers with 64+ players need 16–32 GB. Important to know: there are no official server system requirements from Cfx.re — all figures here are community consensus from real-world experience. And: RAM usage scales primarily with your resources and assets, not just the slot count.
RAM recommendations by server type (community consensus)
| Server type | Recommendation |
|---|---|
| Vanilla, ~32 slots | from 4 GB RAM / 2 cores |
| Standard roleplay (ESX/QBCore) | 8–16 GB RAM |
| Large servers, 64+ slots | 16–32 GB RAM |
Warning: resources eat RAM, not slots
Two servers with identical player counts can differ massively: a server with hundreds of custom cars, MLOs and scripts needs a multiple of a lean setup. Plan around your resource stack, not just the slot count.
To put the frameworks in context: ESX Legacy is widely considered the most used and is actively maintained, QBCore is stagnating, and Qbox (a QBCore fork built on ox_lib) is often recommended by the community for new projects. All three sit in the “standard roleplay” row for RAM needs.
Which RespawnHost package fits me?
All FiveM packages are available as a fixed package (monthly price) or Pay-Per-Use (billed per second, only while the server is running — the 2 GB package costs €0.0239 per hour, for example):
| RAM | Price/month | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| 2 GB | €6 | Test and development servers |
| 4 GB | €12 | Small vanilla server (~32 slots) |
| 8 GB | €22.79 | Roleplay starter (ESX/QBCore, lean resource stack) |
| 12 GB | €32.40 | Roleplay with a growing resource stack |
| 16 GB | €40.79 | Established roleplay servers, 64+ slots |
| 24 GB | €54 | Large communities with many custom assets |
Tip: start small, scale up
With Pay-Per-Use you can start small and cheap and watch how your server behaves under load — upgrading is possible at any time. That's more reliable than any table.
For comparison: the new Cfx Server of FiveM for GTA V Enhanced is stated by Cfx.re to need up to 50% less RAM per player — for Legacy servers, however, the figures above still apply.
Frequently asked questions
Is 4 GB RAM enough for a FiveM server? For a vanilla server with around 32 slots, per community consensus: yes. As soon as a roleplay framework with custom assets comes into play, you should plan for 8 GB or more.
How much RAM does an ESX or QBCore server need? The community recommends 8–16 GB — depending on how many scripts, vehicles and MLOs you load. The resource stack is the decisive factor.
Are there official system requirements for FiveM servers? No — Cfx.re does not publish official server specs. All recommendations (including in this guide) are based on real-world community experience.
Can I switch my package later? Yes — at RespawnHost you can upgrade to a larger package at any time when your resource stack grows.
