For 4–6 players we recommend Viking Starter with 6 GB. Casual groups usually pay less with pay-per-use.

Yes. Open Mods in the panel, find a Thunderstore mod and click Install. On a Vanilla server, BepInEx and required dependencies are set up automatically without resetting your world. Stop the server before installation and start it again afterwards. Check the mod author’s notes for game-version compatibility and whether your players also need the mod. Valheim Plus remains available as a separate template.

Yes! Enable 'Crossplay' mode in the startup settings and Steam, PC Game Pass and Xbox play together on your server. From September 9, 2026 (Valheim 1.0), PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2 join in.

Upload your local world (.db and .fwl files) via SFTP to the 'savedata/worlds_local' folder and adjust the world name in the startup settings. Then you continue playing online.

Yes. Compatible mods such as Valheim Plus can raise the game’s limit. RespawnHost adds no slot cap and charges no per-player fee. Enable the Server section in the Valheim Plus configuration and set the maximum player count. Server and clients need a matching mod version. Smooth performance depends on your plan, world, builds and mods. Vanilla remains limited to ten simultaneous players.

Plans offer 2, 6, 10, 16 or 24 GB RAM. For a small, fresh vanilla world, 2 GB is the entry option; larger worlds, builds and mods need more headroom. Player counts on plans are vanilla recommendations, not an extra slot cap. Larger modded groups should monitor actual resource usage. More RAM alone does not raise the game’s player limit.

Yes, but only in areas nobody has visited yet. The far north has always existed as a placeholder – if you've been there, it stays empty. For the full finale, create a new world: change the world name in the panel, restart, and your old world remains as a file.

Yes, Valheim enforces one: at least 5 characters, and it must not be contained in the server name – otherwise the server won't start. You can change it anytime in the launch settings.

No – that's up to you. Many rent their Valheim server for fixed play evenings and switch it off in between, so it costs nothing. For a world that's always reachable, just leave it running.

Valheim backs itself up in stages: first auto-backup after 2 hours, then every 12 hours (4 kept). On top, you create manual backups and automatic backup schedules in the panel – with 1-click restore.

Server and client are on different versions. Update your game on Steam/Xbox and restart the server – it pulls the latest update automatically.
