Palworld 1.0: what you need to know after release
Palworld 1.0 has been live since July 10 — and the first days surfaced plenty that’s easy to miss in the patch notes: changed XP mechanics, two new breeding-adjacent systems and an endgame that puts different demands on your server. Here are the community’s most important findings from the first days — verified, no myths.
The 1.0 key facts at a glance
| What | As of 1.0 |
|---|---|
| Level cap | 80 (previously 65) |
| Pals | 72 new, 287 total |
| Capture XP bonus | now ends after 5 catches per species (previously 12) |
| New systems | Mutation (breeding) & Awakening (endgame) |
| New areas | World Tree (explorable) + Sunreach floating islands |
| Story | Complete — with an ending |
What’s the fastest way to level in Palworld 1.0?
The most important change that many old guides still get wrong: the per-species capture bonus now ends after 5 catches instead of 12. That makes “capture chaining” — moving from species to species and catching 5 of each — the fastest XP route in the game.
Combine it with:
- Completing missions — the reworked quest system pays far more XP than before
- Catching Alpha and dungeon bosses instead of killing them — the catch grants more XP than the kill
- Keeping crafting running on the side — a continuously producing base levels you passively
Tip
Climb the watchtower first in every region: it reveals the map, becomes a fast-travel point and grants technology points. It does not hand out schematics — some guides claim that incorrectly.
How do Mutation and Awakening work?
The two new systems confuse a lot of players because they sound similar — but they apply in sequence:
Mutation happens at birth. Every bred egg has a small chance to hatch as a Mutated Egg: with stronger stats and one of several mutation-exclusive passive skills you can’t get any other way. Community datamines put the base chance at around 1%; the new Extravagant Vegetable Cake raises it to roughly 3%. So expect one to three mutations per hundred eggs — breeding farms are worth it again.
Awakening happens afterwards. Using Radiant Gems from the World Tree endgame you permanently strengthen a finished Pal. Awakening changes neither species nor passives — it makes the result of your breeding stronger.
The right order: breed the perfect Pal first, then awaken it. The other way around you waste rare gems on a Pal you’ll replace later.
What awaits me in the World Tree endgame?
The World Tree is the central endgame zone from roughly level 74. That’s where you farm the new top-tier materials Palacite and Ancient World Tree Bark for the level-80 technologies. Above it float the Sunreach islands, reachable with the Wing Pack — together the explorable map has roughly doubled.
For server admins that means: more map, more simultaneously loaded areas and bases. If your community is actively pushing towards the endgame, check the RAM recommendations — a package upgrade is available in the panel at any time.
Why does my game or server crash since 1.0?
By far the most common cause in the first days: old Early Access mods. Mod files and loaders from before 1.0 cause crashes, corrupted saves and quest bugs — even when the mods are “disabled”. Leftovers have to be removed manually.
Warning
Before the first 1.0 start with an old save: create a backup and completely remove all Early Access mods including loader files. The guide Installing Palworld mods shows how to manage mods cleanly on your server.
Which server settings make sense after 1.0?
- At RespawnHost you manage all 108 server options directly in the config editor in the panel — no INI file editing. Details in Configuring your server.
- If your server runs on tight RAM, disabling invader raids (
bEnableInvaderEnemy) was the most effective stability trick throughout Early Access — it remains solid first aid. - As always after big updates: back up before the update restart, then verify the world.
Open questions — as of July 14
A few things remain unsettled four days after release:
- Dedicated server memory usage: Pocketpair hasn’t explicitly confirmed whether the well-known Early Access memory leak is fully fixed in 1.0. Our observation so far: scheduled restarts don’t hurt.
- First hotfix: No official 1.0.1 patch had shipped by July 14 — with an update this size (27 pages of patch notes), follow-ups in the coming days are very likely.
- Exact mutation rates: the 1%/3% figures come from community datamines, not from Pocketpair.
We’ll keep this guide updated as news lands.
FAQ
Is switching to 1.0 with an old save worth it? Yes — saves carry over. Back up first and remove Early Access mods completely; they’re the most common crash cause.
What’s the fastest way to level 80? Combine capture chaining (5 catches per species), missions and caught Alphas — plus continuously running crafting at base.
Do I need a stronger server for the endgame? Not necessarily — but World Tree and Sunreach grow the active world considerably. If the endgame lags, a RAM upgrade is the first lever.
