How to Create and Set Up a Hytale Server

Step-by-step guide to creating your Hytale server: From server creation to your first player join.

Setting Up Your Hytale Server

This guide walks you through creating a Hytale server on RespawnHost from start to finish. By the end, you and your players will be connected and ready to play.

Prerequisites

Before you begin:

Step 1: Create Your Server

  1. Log in to the RespawnHost panel.
  2. Click Create Server.
  3. Select Hytale as the game.
  4. Choose your server package:
PackageRAMPrice CategoryBest For
Explorer6 GBBudget1-5 players
Adventurer8 GBBudget5-10 players
Warrior12 GBStandard10-20 players
Champion16 GBStandard20-30 players
Legend24 GBPremium30-50 players
Titan32 GBPremium50+ players
  1. Select your server location:

    • Frankfurt, Germany for European players
    • Salt Lake City, USA for North American players
  2. Click Create. The server provisions within seconds.

Step 2: First Start

After creation, your server appears in the dashboard:

  1. Click on your new Hytale server to open the management panel.
  2. Click Start to boot the server for the first time.
  3. Wait for the console to show the server is ready. On first launch, Hytale generates the world and creates default configuration files.

The initial startup may take longer than usual while the world generates. Subsequent starts are faster.

Step 3: Basic Configuration

Before inviting players, configure your server settings:

  1. Open the File Manager in the panel.
  2. Navigate to the server configuration file (see Server Configuration for the full reference).
  3. Key settings to review:
server-name=My Hytale Server
max-players=20
difficulty=normal
pvp-enabled=false
  1. Save the file and restart the server for changes to take effect.

For a complete list of all settings and what they do, see the Configuration Guide.

Step 4: Connect to Your Server

Your server’s connection details are displayed in the panel dashboard:

  1. Copy the Server Address (format: address:port).
  2. Open Hytale on your computer.
  3. Go to Multiplayer > Add Server or Direct Connect.
  4. Paste the server address and connect.

If this is your first time connecting, you automatically receive admin permissions as the server owner.

Step 5: Invite Players

Share your server address with friends or your community:

  • The server address is shown in the panel dashboard.
  • Players do not need any additional software — they connect directly through Hytale.
  • Make sure your server’s player limit matches or exceeds the number of expected players.

If players have trouble connecting, check:

  • The server is running (green status in panel)
  • The player count has not reached max-players
  • The server address was copied correctly, including the port

Step 6: Install Mods (Optional)

To add mods to your server:

  1. Use the Mod Installer in the panel to browse and install popular mods with one click.
  2. Alternatively, upload mod files manually through the File Manager.
  3. Restart the server after installing mods.
  4. Ensure all players also install the same mods on their clients.

For detailed instructions, see Installing Mods on Your Hytale Server.

Managing Your Server

The RespawnHost panel gives you full control:

  • Console — View server logs and execute commands in real time. See Admin Commands for available commands.
  • File Manager — Browse, edit, upload, and download server files.
  • Backups — Create and restore world backups. See World Management.
  • Schedules — Set up automatic restarts and backup schedules.
  • Players — View online players, manage permissions, kick or ban.

Free respawnserver.com Subdomain

Every Hytale server comes with a free yourname.respawnserver.com subdomain. Instead of sharing a raw IP, tell your friends my-server.respawnserver.com — memorable, free, live instantly.

  1. Open your server dashboard in the RespawnHost panel
  2. Go to OverviewSubdomain section
  3. Enter your preferred name (available names turn green)
  4. Save — active immediately, no DNS change required

The DNS record points at your current server IP automatically and updates if the IP changes.

Resources and Fair Use

Every Hytale server at RespawnHost includes:

  • Guaranteed RAM per package size (dedicated, not shared)
  • Dedicated NVMe SSD storage — fair use, plenty for worlds and mods
  • Fair-use CPU on AMD Ryzen 9 9950X / 7950X — burst capacity for world generation and chunk saves
  • Unlimited player slots — only hardware-bound
  • Free MySQL databasesdetails

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does server creation take?

Server provisioning is near-instant. The first startup takes 1-3 minutes while the world generates. You can start playing immediately after.

Can I change my server location after creation?

No. The server location is set during creation. To switch locations, create a new server and transfer your world backup. See World Management for backup instructions.

Can I upgrade or downgrade my package?

Yes. You can change your package at any time through the panel. Billing adjusts automatically with pay-per-second pricing. No data is lost during upgrades or downgrades.

What happens if my server runs out of RAM?

The server may crash or become unresponsive. The panel monitors resource usage — check the metrics tab. If you are hitting limits, upgrade your package or reduce your mod count. See RAM Requirements for guidance.

Do I need to keep the panel open for the server to run?

No. The server runs independently. You only need the panel to manage settings, view the console, or perform administrative tasks. Close the panel and the server continues running.
