Valheim 1.0 adds steep 67° building pieces, several drawbridges, new wood families and more furnishings. In the Deep North, you also need to clear deep snow before building. For a large project, try these additions in a small sample first, before rebuilding an established longhouse or harbour.

Which new pieces help with steep roofs?

The official release notes list 67° versions in several existing families, including roof sections and matching transitions. That gives you purpose-made pieces for a steep design.

Piece familyConfirmed additionPossible use in your design
Thatch and shingle roofs67° roof, inner and outer corners, ridgeTall roofs with matching transitions
Wood and Ashwood67° walls, beams or roof crossesGables and matching supports
Darkwood, Iron Wood and logsNew 67° beamsVisible beams following the same angle
Timber and ScalewoodMore beams, poles and wall shapesNew facades and interior layouts

The last column contains our design suggestions. The patch notes do not promise unlimited spans or a particular structural strength for every new piece.

How can you plan a rebuild without wasting materials?

Build a single sample beside the existing house: two walls, a gable and the proposed roof transition. Check the snap points, interior space and beam alignment. Once that section works, apply it to the main building.

A tall roof still needs a supported connection through the structure. Inspect the support colours with your hammer and add support where needed. Game8’s building guide explains the basic role of these colours and supports. A new roof angle does not remove the usual building constraints.

Plan smoke ventilation at the same time. A new ridge is not automatically a working chimney. With the fire lit, check whether smoke enters occupied space and account for rain protection at the opening. Finish the decorative cladding afterwards, so you do not have to cut through a completed facade to provide ventilation.

What should you test with the new drawbridges?

Iron Gate lists Drawbridge, Rustic Drawbridge and Timber Drawbridge. For a harbour or gatehouse, first build a small trial section at the planned location. The required clearance depends on the chosen piece and its surroundings.

Our suggested checks: can you operate the bridge from both sides? Is the passage clear in the positions you need? Can someone return from the water to the walkway? Is there another route when a player has closed it? If you intend to move vehicles or animals through the opening, test that exact journey before completing the build.

A moving bridge is not evidence of an invulnerable defence. Enemies, terrain and the rest of the base still matter. Judge the layout by a functional test rather than a screenshot of the closed bridge.

Why can you not build everywhere in the Deep North immediately?

The patch notes state that deep snow must be cleared before building and list the Snow Shovel as a new tool. Prepare a usable area before transporting all your materials to a site that looks suitable from a distance.

The ground and paths deserve as much attention as the building’s shape. Frozen bodies of water are slippery in 1.0. We recommend testing the route between storage, entrance and retreat point while wearing your expedition equipment. A base needs to work in everyday use, not just look good from a viewpoint.

New resources and stations belong to the Deep North crafting progression. If a piece is unavailable, inspect its requirements before assuming the content is missing from your update.

How can a building group coordinate its work?

The release notes describe a HUD setting that shows who placed a building piece. This helps with shared projects: who started an extension, and who should you ask before changing it? The display makes attribution easier, though you still need to agree on plans.

Set aside material storage, planned routes and an area for unfinished samples. New angles and bridges can produce several experimental structures. Label them as tests so that someone does not remove a work in progress as apparently redundant construction.

Does 1.0 automatically improve FPS in large bases?

Do not assume a major improvement. In the official FAQ, Iron Gate says large builds are not particularly affected by the 1.0 optimisations. The release notes also introduce Draw Distance, which changes simulation distance as well. A higher setting can demand more performance.

We recommend comparing the same viewpoint and location while changing one setting at a time. This makes it easier to see whether draw distance influences the problem. A different server plan is not an automatic solution to a local graphics limit.

FAQ

Does vanilla 1.0 have drawbridges?

Yes. The release notes list three drawbridge variants.

Are 67° roofs just decorative?

There are matching roof sections, corners, ridges and other pieces; normal building and support requirements still need attention.

Where can I see who placed a piece?

Enable the corresponding building-author display in the HUD settings.

Can I build directly on deep snow?

The official notes require clearing deep snow before building.
