What changed about breeding in Palworld 1.0?
With the 1.0 release (July 10, 2026), Pocketpair reworked the breeding system: the new system is called “Genetic Recombination” and gives you finer control over the stats and traits of offspring. At the same time, Paldex numbers were partially reassigned — old Early Access breeding calculators and combo tables are no longer reliable everywhere. On top of that come the Awakening system and a level cap of 80 (previously 65).
Warning
Only use breeding calculators that have already imported 1.0 data. Tools running on Early Access datasets calculate with old Paldex numbers and produce wrong combos.
How does Genetic Recombination work?
Genetic Recombination is the 1.0 successor to the old breeding system. The core stays the same: two Pals in the Breeding Farm produce an egg. What’s new is finer control over which stats and traits are passed to the offspring — the Early Access RNG lottery becomes more plannable. The 1.0 community databases are documenting the exact inheritance rules as they’re discovered. For server owners the important part: nothing changes in the server setup — breeding still runs through the Breeding Farm at your base.
Hartalis: the new prestige Pal
Hartalis is one of the most sought-after endgame Pals — a few facts that often get mixed up:
| Fact | As of 1.0 |
|---|---|
| Paldex number | #197 (before 1.0: #156 — renumbering!) |
| Element | Neutral |
| New in 1.0? | No — Hartalis arrived with v0.7.0 |
| How to obtain | Only via the Summoning Altar (Hartalis Slab or Ultra Slab) |
| Work suitability | Gathering 7 + Lumbering 7 |
| Partner skill | ”Sacred Barrier” |
Note
Whether Hartalis can also be bred is currently documented inconsistently across community sources: one major wiki lists Hartalis as breedable only with itself, while another database lists dozens of parent combos. Until that's settled, the only reliable route is the Summoning Altar.
Awakening and level cap 80
Alongside breeding, 1.0 added the Awakening system: with Radiant Gems, Pals can be strengthened beyond their normal limits. Combined with the new level cap of 80, the endgame shifts — perfectly bred Pals are no longer the end of progression, but the foundation for Awakening.
What does this mean for your server?
- No wipe needed: Pocketpair officially confirms that existing worlds keep running with 1.0 — your bred Pals are safe.
- Backups are still mandatory: create a backup before and after big patches. Shortly after release there were save issues, fixed by hotfix v1.0.1 (July 15, 2026) — keep your server up to date (update guide).
- Breeding rates like hatching times are still configured via the server config — see configuring your server.
Tip
Breeding projects need uptime: eggs only incubate while the server is running. A Palworld server at RespawnHost runs 24/7 — your breeding continues even when nobody is online.
Frequently asked questions
Do old breeding calculators still work? Only if they’ve been updated to 1.0 data. Because of the Paldex renumbering (example: Hartalis #156 → #197) and Genetic Recombination, Early Access tools partially produce wrong results.
Can I breed Hartalis? Unclear — sources contradict each other. The only reliable way to get Hartalis is the Summoning Altar with a Hartalis Slab or Ultra Slab.
Will I lose my bred Pals with the 1.0 update? No. A wipe is officially not required; existing worlds keep working. A backup before the update is still mandatory.
What does Awakening add compared to breeding? Breeding determines the foundation (stats, traits); Awakening strengthens beyond that — using Radiant Gems. Both together are the path to a perfect level 80 Pal.
