Creating a Dragonwilds server at RespawnHost
Since update 0.11 “Dowdun Reach” (March 31, 2026), RuneScape Dragonwilds has official dedicated servers for up to 6 players. This guide takes you from ordering through the DedicatedServer.ini to your first join.
The tech behind it
The Dragonwilds dedicated server is a separate Steam app (app ID 4019830), downloadable anonymously via SteamCMD, available for Windows and Linux (64-bit). The server binary is RSDragonwilds.exe. Until the 1.0 release on September 15, 2026, only PC players can join. At RespawnHost the server comes preinstalled and is ready in under 90 seconds.
Step 1: Order the server
- Open the Dragonwilds order page.
- Pick fixed package (flat monthly price) or Pay-Per-Use (per second, only while the server runs).
- Pick a package (from 4 GB RAM — recommendations in the RAM guide) and a location, then complete the order.
Step 2: Fill in DedicatedServer.ini
The central configuration file is DedicatedServer.ini. Depending on the server OS it lives under:
RSDragonwilds/Saved/Config/WindowsServer/DedicatedServer.ini
RSDragonwilds/Saved/Config/Linux/DedicatedServer.ini
Four entries are mandatory for the server to start:
| Entry | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Owner ID | Your RuneScape Dragonwilds player ID — found in game at the very bottom of the settings menu |
| Server name | The name of your server |
| Default world name | What the world should be called on first startup |
| Admin password | Unlocks the server management tab |
Optionally you can also set a world password (supersedes the password stored in the world; leaving it empty is fine).
Note
For the exact spelling of the INI entries, use the prefilled file on your server — at RespawnHost the fields are already in place, you just fill in your values.
Step 3: Ports
| Port | Purpose |
|---|---|
| 7777 (UDP) | Game port (default) |
| 7778 | Secondary port |
When self-hosting, the port could be changed via the -port= launch parameter — at RespawnHost the networking is already set up.
Step 4: Start and connect
- Start the server in the panel — on first start, the world is created with your default world name.
- Join the server in game and get going. With the admin password you reach the server management tab in game.
Where do the saves live?
Worlds are stored as .sav files under:
RSDragonwilds/Saved/Savegames/
The file manager in the panel gives you access anytime — ideal for manual backups before major updates.
Frequently asked questions
How many players fit on a Dragonwilds server? A maximum of 6 — the cap is fixed and cannot be raised via configuration; only Jagex can change it.
Where do I find my owner ID? In game: open the settings menu and scroll all the way down — your player ID is listed there.
Can console players join my server? Not yet — until the 1.0 release on September 15, 2026, dedicated servers are PC-only. What changes after that is covered in the 1.0 article.
Do I need the game on the server? No — the server app (4019830) is standalone and downloadable anonymously via SteamCMD. At RespawnHost it comes preinstalled anyway.
