What is DayZ Badlands?
Badlands is the next paid DayZ expansion from Bohemia Interactive — featuring Nasdara, a completely new 267 km² desert map, and a new rebuild system with over 5,000 rebuildable structures. Release is announced for October 2026 on PC, Xbox Series X|S and PS5 (native). Paving the way is update 1.29 “Road to Badlands”, stable on all platforms since July 15, 2026.
Note
Price and exact release date are not final yet. So far Bohemia has said "October 2026" and a price "under $25". We'll update this article as soon as official details land.
What’s in update 1.29 “Road to Badlands”?
Update 1.29 (Experimental July 1, Stable July 15, 2026; PC build 1.29.163451, console 1.84) is the expansion’s forerunner:
| Content | Details |
|---|---|
| SCR-17 battle rifle | New rifle, plus new optics |
| Desert gear | T65 helmet, desert camo equipment |
| Winter coat | New clothing for cold regions |
| Nasdara teasers | Nasdara vehicle wrecks in the world |
| New infected | New infected variants |
| Engine work | Preparation for Badlands, multithreaded bullet physics |
Warning
The new 1.29 items do not automatically appear in the loot table of a community server with a customized economy: you have to add them to types.xml / the Central Economy, or they won't spawn. See the Central Economy guide.
How big is Nasdara?
At 267 km², Nasdara is the largest official DayZ map — considerably bigger than Chernarus. The setting: a desert province in western Takistan, built completely from scratch (no Arma import). The defining gameplay twist: water and resource scarcity — survival revolves around supply far more than on previous maps.
What is the rebuild system?
Badlands introduces a new feature: over 5,000 rebuildable structures. Players can repair houses and wells and turn entire settlements into bases. For community servers this is the most exciting addition in years — base building without mandatory mods, right in the vanilla sandbox.
What do server owners need to know now?
- Badlands will be the third paid DLC after Livonia and Frostline. Announced price: “under $25” (not final).
- How community servers will get the map is still open. With Livonia and Frostline it worked like this: the server loads the map as a server DLC, and only players who own the DLC can join. It’s plausible Badlands follows the same pattern — but this hasn’t been officially confirmed yet.
- Apply update 1.29 cleanly now: create a backup, update the server, and if you run a customized economy, add the new items to
types.xml(backups guide). - Check your mods: as with every major update, some Workshop mods need updating after 1.29 — see the mods guide.
- Hardware: Nasdara is bigger than anything before it. Concrete server requirements haven’t been published; we’ll update our RAM recommendations at release.

How much will Badlands cost? Bohemia has mentioned a price “under $25” — not final yet. Badlands is the third paid DLC after Livonia and Frostline.
Do my players need the DLC to play on a Nasdara server? Not officially confirmed yet. With Livonia and Frostline, players had to own the DLC to join matching community servers — it’s very likely Badlands works the same way.
