How much RAM does an Enshrouded server need?

Short answer: according to Keen Games, the Enshrouded server uses around 4.4 GB of RAM idle plus roughly 100 MB per player — officially it should need “not more than 6 GB”. In practice, 8–16 GB has proven itself for full servers with large bases. At RespawnHost the 6 GB package covers small groups, while the 10 GB package is the all-rounder for a full 16 slots.

The official Keen Games hardware recommendations

PlayersCPU (recommended)RAM
4–6i7 at 3.2 GHz, 6 cores / 12 threads~4.4 GB + ~100 MB per player
16i7 at 3.7 GHz, 8 cores / 16 threads~4.4 GB + ~100 MB per player

On top of that, per Keen:

  • Bandwidth: roughly 2 Mbps upload per player — around 32 Mbps with 16 players
  • Disk: the installation takes about 13 GB; with saves, logs and backups plan for around 30 GB

Note

The official 6 GB figure is an ideal value. With many concurrent players, sprawling bases and long-lived worlds, memory usage grows — which is why community servers in practice usually run 8–16 GB. More RAM never hurts; too little causes stutters and crashes.

Which RespawnHost package fits me?

PackagePrice/monthRecommendation
6 GB€14.252–6 players, compact bases — the entry point
10 GB€22.50The all-rounder: a full 16 slots with comfortable headroom
14 GB€29.7516 slots with large bases and a long-lived world
20 GB€40.00Maximum headroom for heavy always-on communities
24 GB€45.00Plenty of reserve — world and save can grow indefinitely
32 GB€60.00No compromises: never think about RAM again

Every package is available as a fixed package or Pay-Per-Use (billed per second, only runtime counts). Since Enshrouded allows a maximum of 16 players, you never need a package “for more slots” — extra RAM buys you bigger bases, longer-lived worlds and smooth performance.

Tip

Starting small pays off: at RespawnHost you can switch packages later as your world and player count grow. With Pay-Per-Use you also only pay while the server is actually running — ideal for weekend groups.

Frequently asked questions

Is 6 GB of RAM enough for an Enshrouded server? For small groups of 2–6 players: yes, that covers the official recommendation. For a full 16 slots or large bases we recommend 10 GB or more.

Why more RAM when Keen officially states just 6 GB? That figure describes the ideal case. Real long-term worlds with many buildings, chests and concurrent players tend to need 8–16 GB in practice.

How much bandwidth does the server need? Keen states roughly 2 Mbps upload per player. At RespawnHost you don’t have to worry about this — the datacenter connection covers it easily.

Is the CPU or the RAM more important? Both: for 16 players Keen recommends 8 cores/16 threads at 3.7 GHz+. If either becomes a bottleneck, lowering slotCount in the configuration also helps.
