What do the games cost — and what’s changing?

Right now Valheim is noticeably cheaper at $19.99 than Enshrouded ($29.99). That’s about to change: with 1.0 on September 9, 2026, Valheim rises to $29.99 — after that, both cost the same. Enshrouded has also announced a price increase for its 1.0; the amount hasn’t been set yet.

Tip

If you're going to buy one of these games anyway, buying before the respective 1.0 release saves money: Valheim before September 9, 2026 for $19.99, Enshrouded before October 15, 2026 at the current price.

When do the 1.0 versions release?

  • Valheim: September 9, 2026, simultaneously on all platforms.
  • Enshrouded: October 15, 2026 for PC and PS5; the Xbox version follows in spring 2027.

Autumn 2026 is the turning point for both communities — set up a server now and you’ll launch right into peak player activity at 1.0.

How many players fit on a server?

Enshrouded: 16 players, Valheim: 10 — and the Valheim limit is a hard cap. It can only be bypassed with a mod (e.g. Azumatt’s MaxPlayerCount), which is at your own risk and requires a BepInEx-modded server. For larger communities, Enshrouded is the better fit out of the box; with Valheim, going beyond 10 means modding — with all the consequences (see crossplay).

Who has crossplay?

  • Valheim: full crossplay at 1.0 via PlayFab — but: crossplay and BepInEx mods are mutually exclusive. A modded Valheim server inevitably runs with crossplay=false.
  • Enshrouded: currently no crossplay; the developers call it a long-term goal.

The irony: Valheim wins the crossplay category — but only as long as you skip mods. And for both games: console players can’t host servers themselves, but they can join rented ones.

What does the endgame look like?

  • Enshrouded gets its final landmasses and the endgame with 1.0; beyond that, the developers have announced free updates and paid expansions — so the roadmap extends past release.
  • Valheim completes its biome list with the Deep North. The ocean remains without its own update.

Which one is for you?

Enshrouded suits you if …

  • your group has more than 10 people (16 slots without mod tinkering)
  • you want more content after the 1.0 release (free updates + expansions announced)
  • crossplay doesn’t matter to you (a pure PC or pure PS5 group)

Valheim suits you if …

  • you want to play across platforms (full crossplay at 1.0 — unmodded)
  • you buy before September 9, 2026 and grab the lower price
