Windrose mods: state, sources and server use
Are there mods for Windrose? No official mod support and no Steam Workshop — but unofficial .pak community mods on Nexus. Here's how to handle them.

Are there mods for Windrose?
Officially: no. In the current Early Access build, Windrose has no official mod support, no Steam Workshop and no official modding tools. Neither the Steam page nor publisher Pocketpair mention mod support.
Unofficially: yes. A small community modding scene already exists. Mods are distributed through Nexus Mods and are Unreal Engine .pak files (sometimes with .ucas/.utoc) that you install manually.
Warning
Windrose modding is experimental and unofficial. There's no guaranteed compatibility, mods can break after any Early Access update, and a faulty mod can cause crashes. Back up your world (the RocksDB folder) before installing any mod.
What’s on Nexus right now
The scene is young but active. Typical mod categories on Nexus Mods:
- Quality-of-life — e.g. faster travel, loot multipliers
- Tools — a community “Mod Manager” and a “Console Enabler” that unlocks the UE5 console disabled in the base game
- Character & customization mods — e.g. a character editor
Note
Because there's no official mod support, the install route and folder structure aren't officially documented and can change. Follow the instructions on each Nexus mod page and the mod author's notes — that's the most reliable source.
Server vs. client mods
As with most Unreal survival games: many mods must be installed on both the server and every client in the same version to work and to avoid players being dropped on join. Pure client mods (e.g. purely cosmetic changes) only take effect locally for the individual player.
On your RespawnHost server, you upload mod files through the File Manager or via SFTP into the relevant mods folder of the server installation. After uploading, restart the server and check the log to confirm the mod loaded.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a Steam Workshop for Windrose? No. There’s no Workshop and no in-game mod management. Mods come only from community sources like Nexus Mods.
Why does nothing happen after installing? It’s probably a client mod that only takes effect locally — or the server and client versions of the mod don’t match. Server-side mods require everyone to run the same version.
Do mods survive a game update? Your uploaded files remain, but after major Early Access updates a mod is often no longer compatible. Load an updated version — or remove the mod temporarily.
