Convoy, Dedicated Server or TruckersMP — which ATS multiplayer?

American Truck Simulator multiplayer comes in three flavors that differ significantly:

Convoy mode (since update 1.41) is the official SCS multiplayer: up to 8 drivers, synchronized AI traffic, shared freight market jobs, weather sync and CB radio. Without a dedicated server, though, the session ends as soon as the host closes the game.

A rented ATS dedicated server is the always-on variant of Convoy: the session keeps running permanently and everyone joins whenever they want — ideal for virtual trucking companies with regular convoy nights.

TruckersMP is an unofficial mod with hundreds of drivers on public servers — but without AI traffic and without your own rules. For private groups with their own mods and password protection, the official dedicated server is the better choice.

How do I configure an American Truck Simulator dedicated server?

The official SCS dedicated server is controlled by two files: server_config.sii (name, password, rules, ports) and the server_packages (map, DLCs, mods). The most important settings:

You define map, DLCs and mods in the game itself: enable the console (g_developer "1" and g_console "1" in config.cfg), run export_server_packages and upload the generated server_packages.sii and server_packages.dat via SFTP. ATS in 2026: Update 1.60, Illinois & South Dakota

American Truck Simulator is still in active development: update 1.60 (June 2026) brought Game Radio with five original stations, the new material system for truck interiors and the reworked rest mechanic (up to 14 hours behind the wheel, then a mandatory 10-hour break). Your server automatically loads the current stable version on every start.

The map keeps growing fast too: 2025 added Missouri, Iowa and Louisiana, and May 2026 brought Illinois with Chicago — making Route 66 fully driveable end to end. South Dakota with Mount Rushmore is announced for late 2026. Your server doesn't need the map DLCs — players without a DLC can still join and simply keep driving in the base map.
