How many players does a VEIN dedicated server support?

Typical operation is around 8 players; the config field accepts higher values (the wiki default example is 64). For smooth gameplay we recommend 4-8 players.

How much RAM do I need?

Ramjet Studios states 8 GB RAM as the minimum to start the server. For mods, more players, or bigger bases we recommend 12-16 GB. Our Survivor Crew package (8 GB) matches the official minimum exactly.

Does the server run 24/7, even when nobody is online?

Yes. That is the benefit over a peer-to-peer lobby. The server stays online as long as your credit lasts. You can stop it any time from the web interface.

What does the server cost exactly?

The entry package (4 GB RAM) is 10.00 € per month running 24/7, roughly 0.0139 € per hour. The Survivor Crew package (8 GB RAM, official minimum) is 19.61 € per month 24/7. Since we bill per second, you only pay for actual uptime.

Do I need to own VEIN on Steam?

Yes, every player needs the Early Access game on Steam. The server itself is a separate, free Steam download (App ID 2131400), which we install automatically.

Which platforms are supported?

VEIN is currently Steam-exclusive on PC. The dedicated server ships officially for 64-bit Windows. We handle the server side - as a customer you don't need to worry about it.

Which ports are used?

UDP 7777 (game), UDP 7778 (Steam query port) and TCP 7777 (RCON). All ports are opened automatically on our nodes.

Yes, VEIN supports RCON over TCP 7777 for remote console access. The in-game admin menu opens with the "\" key.

Can I adjust server settings?

Yes. Engine.ini exposes 100+ gameplay settings (experience, loot, weather, difficulty). We expose the file directly in the web interface for editing.

Is there mod support?

VEIN has an active mod scene (e.g. on Nexus Mods). Mods can increase RAM usage - for heavily modded servers we plan 12 GB+ RAM.

As soon as Ramjet Studios ships a new build, your server auto-updates on the next restart. Client and server must run the same version.

Are automatic backups available?

Yes, you can configure manual or automatic backups in the web interface. Recommended before major Early Access updates.

Where are your servers located?

We operate locations in Germany and in the USA (Salt Lake City). Pick the location when creating the server.

Yes. Per Steam, VEIN supports both online co-op and online PvP. In Engine.ini you can define how your server runs.

How big is the world?

The current map is roughly 4x4 km. The roadmap targets an expansion up to 14x14 km for the full release.

Can I change the server name or password?

Yes, any time via the web interface. Changes take effect on the next server restart.

What happens when my credit runs out?

The server stops automatically. Your world is preserved completely and will be ready to launch again right after the next top-up.

Can I switch between games?

Yes. Your credit is not tied to VEIN. You can stop the VEIN server at any time and spin up a Valheim or RuneScape: Dragonwilds server instead.

Is VEIN stable in Early Access?

VEIN is Early Access, patches ship regularly. The dedicated server infrastructure has been production-ready since the October 2025 launch. Our hardware is built for fast updates.
