What is a Bannerlord server?

A Bannerlord server is a custom server for the multiplayer mode of Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord. TaleWorlds officially supports and documents custom servers – on them you play Skirmish (6 vs 6), Captain mode with AI troops, Team Deathmatch, Duel or Siege, which is designed for up to 120 fighters. As the operator you set mode, map rotation, factions and admin team yourself. Important: the server covers the multiplayer mode only – the singleplayer campaign has no official co-op. At RespawnHost you rent one via Pay-per-Use from 0.0480 €/h or as a fixed package from 12.00 €/month.

Frequently asked questions about Bannerlord servers

Bannerlord Server Hosting: for clans, tournaments and real sieges

The multiplayer mode of Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord thrives on organised groups. On public servers it often comes down to who swings first; in a practised clan, formation, timing and communication decide. That's exactly what a custom server is for – one where you set mode, maps and rules, and which only runs when you actually need it.

Why rent a Bannerlord server at RespawnHost?

TaleWorlds officially supports custom servers and provides a documented server application. As the operator that gives you full control: Skirmish for 6v6 tournaments, Captain mode with AI troops or Siege, designed for 120 fighters – mode and rotation are yours to set.

Technically it's Siege that puts the most load on the server: on top of the players, Captain and siege modes additionally calculate AI units and the melee physics that define Bannerlord. That's why we use modern AMD Ryzen CPUs with high single-core performance and NVMe SSDs – in Frankfurt am Main for Europe and Salt Lake City for North America.

Support that thinks along

Our support team plays the games themselves: whether a tournament setup is needed, the rotation doesn't apply or the server balks after a Bannerlord update – reach us via ticket and Discord, usually on weekends too.

Features for clans and tournament organisers

  • All multiplayer modes: Skirmish, Captain, Siege, Team Deathmatch and Duel
  • Custom map rotation: order, modes and factions freely assembled
  • Admin tools: manage players, control rounds, run tournaments
  • Server password: for closed training and clan-internal matches
  • Automatic backups: configuration protection with 1-click restore
  • DDoS protection: permanently active, at no extra cost

Our web interface replaces editing config files over the command line: mode, map rotation, player count, admin list and password are changed in the panel – and the real-time console shows you immediately whether the server loads cleanly.

Fairness redefined: the Pay-Per-Use principle

Clan servers run at training and tournament times, not around the clock. With our Pay-Per-Use model you only pay while your server is actually running – the hourly rate for 4 GB is around 0.0480 €, so a three-hour clan training costs about 0.14 €.

For public servers meant to be reachable continuously, the fixed package starts at 12.00 €/month with up to 20 % term discount. Both run off the same prepaid credit, without a contract and without notice periods.

Locations: Frankfurt am Main & Salt Lake City

Instead of spreading ourselves thin from London to Singapore, we focus on the regions our community actually lives in: Frankfurt for Europe, Salt Lake City for North America. In a game where a block has to land within milliseconds, a stable ping is not a side note.

Setting up a Bannerlord server: mode, rotation & admins

You manage the important settings of your server entirely through our panel:

As a RAM guideline: Skirmish and duel training runs fine on Recruit (4 GB). Captain mode with AI troops is considerably more demanding – we recommend 6-8 GB (Footman/Sergeant) there. For well-attended sieges plan for 12-24 GB (Knight to Warlord): Siege simulates not only many players but also siege equipment and destructible structures.

  • Game mode: Skirmish, Captain, Siege, Team Deathmatch or Duel
  • Player count: matched to the mode – from twelve in Skirmish to a full siege
  • Map rotation: assemble order and maps yourself
  • Factions: which cultures line up on which side
  • Admin list: rights for your team, including intervening mid-match
  • Server password: for closed training and internal tournaments

The multiplayer modes at a glance

Bannerlord offers five modes that differ considerably in player count and demands – and therefore in what the server needs:

  • Skirmish (6 vs 6): the competitive mode. Limited respawns, class selection and lots of communication – the basis for most clan tournaments
  • Captain: every player leads an AI troop. Puts more load on the server because entire units are simulated alongside the players
  • Siege: the big one, designed for 120 fighters, with siege equipment, walls and gates – this is where the server needs the most headroom
  • Team Deathmatch: fast fights without round structure, good for warming up
  • Duel: one on one for practising blocks, feints and timing

You switch modes in the panel at any time without rebuilding the server. Many clans run the same machine as a duel and skirmish training server during the week and switch to Siege for tournament night.

Important: servers are for multiplayer

We'd rather say this clearly before anyone forms the wrong expectation: a Bannerlord server serves the multiplayer mode – Skirmish, Captain, Siege, TDM and Duel. The large singleplayer campaign with empire building, trade and marriage politics has no official co-op mode from TaleWorlds and cannot be played together on a server. Community projects are working on it, but none of that is officially supported, and accordingly we don't offer hosting for it. So if you're looking for a server to conquer Calradia with friends, that is unfortunately not what Bannerlord currently offers.

For clans: the server as a training ground

The most common reason for a custom Bannerlord server is training. Formations can't be practised on public servers – too many unknowns, too little communication. With password protection you get an environment where you can drill line-ups, run duels and bring new members up to speed.

For tournaments a second advantage comes in: you control the map rotation, can restart rounds and hold admin rights to step in when disputes arise. And because Pay-per-Use only counts actual runtime, a tournament weekend costs less than half a monthly plan at a traditional provider.
