Bases and gear go, skills and gold stay. Gamepires apologises for the short notice, and community servers are left alone.

SCUM’s Halloween update lands on Wednesday 28 October, and it brings more than candles. Gamepires announced on 22 October that the patch comes with a partial wipe across every official server, plus merges that fold quieter servers into busier ones. The wipe was originally tied to the next major update.

The Halloween content itself is modest: a coffin bed, a hanging jack-o’-lantern, candleholders, a buildable cooking cauldron and a recipe for Corpse Soup. Everything can be earned through gameplay, with no paid DLC this time. Gamepires is also working on grass poking through base floors and animal collisions that launch players and their wheelbarrows into the air.

On official servers, bases, gear, supplies, Fame Points and quest progress reset. Characters keep their attributes, skills and gold, so selling gear beforehand turns it into gold you carry over.

Merged servers keep only one character per player at each destination. If you do nothing, the one with the most playtime survives, and playtime isn’t visible to players. The studio’s workaround is to create a new character on every other affected server, which resets that playtime, and to log out your keeper somewhere safe. You’ll respawn there in starting gear after the update.

Maintenance on affected servers starts at 09:00 UTC on 28 October, with the wipe and update rolling out to all official servers at 15:00 UTC. The Monthly Wipe #1 servers in Europe and US East close without moving characters anywhere, and the official Hardcore servers are being retired because, Gamepires says, player numbers stayed low.

“There will be no further official-server wipes this year,” the post reads, along with an apology for the short notice.

None of this touches community servers. Bases and progress on a server you run yourself stay put unless you wipe them, and Gamepires points players who prefer a quieter island towards community or self-hosted servers. Miss the Hardcore rules? The studio has published the settings its official Hardcore servers use, in standard and third-person versions. It warns they may need tweaking as new features arrive. Update your server soon after the patch drops so players on the new client can still connect.

The Awareness and Archery XP boosts from Into the Wild also end with this update. Next up are tattoos, controller support and Photo Mode, still without a release date.
