SCS Software previewed another part of the upcoming 1.62 update for Euro Truck Simulator 2 on 8 October: new truck garage models across the whole map. They replace the old garages in the base map and in every map DLC. The Steam post does not give a release date for 1.62 yet.
American Truck Simulator already got the same treatment with its 1.58 update. Now the European game is catching up.
The new garages have reworked visuals inside and out, with more detail throughout, from the smallest garage to the larger upgrade tiers. SCS wants them to feel more modern and to make upgrading your garage feel more rewarding. That matters more than it sounds, since the garage is where you store your trucks, manage your drivers and see how far your company has grown.
New models usually cost frames, and SCS addressed that directly. Keeping the performance cost in line with the old models “was no small task”, the studio wrote. It hopes to have found the right balance. Whether that holds on older machines is something you will only find out once 1.62 is out.
The screenshots in the post are marked as work in progress, so details may still change before release.
The garages are part of a longer effort to bring older parts of the game up to date. SCS is gradually reworking older areas of the base map. Benelux was the most recent, and the United Kingdom rework is currently underway. The garages date back to the game’s early years and no longer matched the newer regions.
SCS says it plans to keep refining the world of Euro Truck Simulator 2 in future updates. More previews of what 1.62 brings should follow before release.
