Gamepires released SCUM’s October Update, version 1.3.4.0.160241, on 5 October, closing out the Into the Wild season. The headline features match last week’s preview. Larger fish fight harder, fishing quests come in three tiers, and a per-server leaderboard tracks the biggest catches. Crows and seagulls are back, mutant animals yield craftable clothing, and the Apex Hunt arena at TEC1 now hosts Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch.
What the preview didn’t cover is the full patch list, and that is where people running servers should look.
Three new custom zone settings let you control NPC damage to vehicles separately from player damage:
- NPC Melee Damage to Vehicles
- NPC Melee Weapon Damage to Vehicles
- NPC Projectile Damage to Vehicles
All three default to Allow. “Server owners must configure these separately from the player damage settings,” the patch notes read. To stop NPC gunfire chewing up cars in a zone, disable NPC Projectile Damage to Vehicles for that zone specifically. Default custom zone regions also can no longer be deleted permanently.
The fixes list is long. Gamepires has fixed server crashes when some players tried to join and when handing in quests such as Made For Dirt and Rolling Thunder. Removing vehicle seats or taking a wheel off the RIS no longer crashes the server either. Searching certain Secret Bunker containers could create duplicate database records and lock players out of the server entirely. A large number of quests could trigger a networking warning that blocked connections, and slow loading of base elements could get players kicked.
Exploits are on the list too, including one that bypassed the turret limit by moving and rebuilding the flag, and another that skipped the sector respawn cooldown. Clothes now get dirty at 5% per hour instead of 20%, and rips only appear below 70% durability.
The next release will be a standalone update with a tattoo system, controller support and photo mode for everyone. It is also when Gamepires plans a partial wipe of official servers, keeping character stats and gold but clearing bases, gear and supplies. “Partial wipes won’t be enforced on private servers,” the studio wrote, so on your own server that call is yours.
Two fishing bugs are still open: the line can snap if you walk backwards while landing a fish, and frame rate affects reeling. Until a fix ships, keep walking forwards.
